Effects of Outdoor Education on Elementary School Students’ Perception of Scientific Literacy and Learning Motivation

This study aims to explore the impact of outdoor education on senior elementary school students' perceptions of scientific literacy and learning motivation. 42 senior elementary school students (25 males, 17 females; average age = 11.6) were enrolled and divided into experimental (N = 21) and control (N = 21) groups. Participants were taught the same content about science for four weeks. The control group adopted traditional indoor teaching, whereas the experimental group adopted outdoor education. Before and after the course, each student completed the 23 items of scientific literacy and the 6 items of learning motivation scale. The results show that the experimental group had significantly higher perceptions of scientific literacy and learning motivation. The outdoor education teaching method has positive effects on the higher levels of awareness and creative development of students. These findings imply that outdoor education has a positive effect on improving students' perceptions of scientific literacy and learning motivation.
Visual Art Activities as a Means of Realizing Aspects of Empowerment for Blind and Visually Impaired Young People

In this article, we present a study that examined the effects of visual art activities on the realization of aspects of empowerment in a blind ninth-grade elementary school female student with minimal residual vision. We focused on three key aspects: well-being, positive self-image, and empowerment of strengths and weaknesses. In addition to the student, her mother and a personal assistant who accompanies the student during each activity in art class participated in the study. Based on initial interviews with all three participants, we developed ten visual art activities that address at least one of the listed aspects in different ways. Based on interviews, rating scales, observations and analysis of the visual art solutions, we found that visual art activities have a significant impact on improving a person's well-being, helping to strengthen a good self-image, reinforcing strong areas and developing weaker ones. In the future, we could broaden the range of psychological aspects that could be influenced by artistic activities, and we would also obtain more interesting and reliable results if more people with different special needs were included in the research.

This article aims to answer the research question: How do 5th grade students experience the use of artificial intelligence (AI) tools to create a comic strip describing the survival struggle between the Myna and the Lesser Kestrel? This study utilized a case-study approach to examine the advantages and challenges experienced by 5th grade students using AI tools to create a comic strip about the Lesser Kestrel's survival struggle. Data were collected through qualitative methods, including student reflections, drawings, and analyses of the comic strips they created. Additionally, a questionnaire was used to assess students' attitudes towards the four components of 21st century skills: Creativity, critical thinking, collaboration, and communication. The study indicates that the development of 21st century skills among students requires a collaborative effort involving both parents and teachers. It is not sufficient to rely solely on technological tools; there must be intermediary processes and support from teachers, who are obliged to adjust their teaching methods. Additionally, a teaching approach that supports the creation of a future citizen with a humanistic outlook and awareness of the complexity of life, is essential. This approach develops students' environmental citizenship, which is also an important 21st century skill. This involves integrating ethical, inclusive, and holistic perspectives to address complex problems, such as the survival struggle between the Lesser Kestrel and Myna.
Diorama: An Effective Approach to Reduce Social Withdrawal Behavior in Children With Autism Spectrum Disorder

Children diagnosed with moderate autism spectrum disorder (MASD) exhibit a range of socially unacceptable behaviors, which notably include social withdrawal behavior (SWB); these individuals tend to disengage from various social contexts, consequently impeding their communication and social interaction capabilities. The primary objective of this research was to employ miniatures (diorama) as a methodological approach to construct semi-naturalistic scenarios for children with MASD that authentically represent their quotidian experiences and facilitate interaction, contributing to the alleviation of their SWB. The research sample comprised 21 children with MASD, aged between 6 and 9 years, who were enrolled at the Al-Jabr Institute in Al-Ahsa, Saudi Arabia. A quasi-experimental methodology was adopted to align with the research's inherent characteristics, using a three-group design. The instruments utilized included the Social Withdrawal Behavior Scale (SWBS) alongside a training program devised by the authors. The results showed a significant reduction in SWB among those children to whom the diorama program was applied. Results also indicated the continuation of this effect after the end of the diorama program period for two consecutive months. The outcomes encourage further implementation of the diorama methodology on more extensive samples and across a broader geographic scope within Saudi Arabia, thereby facilitating the generalization of the findings to the entire population of children diagnosed with MASD. Findings also encourage the enhancement of the diorama's role in forthcoming experimental inquiries to ascertain its efficacy in mitigating other socially maladaptive behaviors exhibited by children with MASD.
Interdisciplinary Mathematics Education: A Systematic Review

Research in mathematics education and interdisciplinarity is varied and extensive, covering multiple approaches that reflect a growing interest in this type of perspective. The objective of this study is to systematize the findings of research on interdisciplinary mathematics education published between 2019 and 2024. The review was carried out following the guidelines of the PRISMA statement, allowing us to identify 49 articles published in journals indexed in the Web of Science (WOS) and Scopus databases. Subsequently, a content analysis was carried out to identify methodological and theoretical aspects present in the studies reviewed, such as methodology employed, education level of participants, disciplines integrated with mathematics, and types of interdisciplinary tasks proposed. Additionally, four main research themes were identified: (a) understanding of interdisciplinarity; (b) pedagogical strategies for interdisciplinary development in mathematics education; (c) interdisciplinarity for the development of mathematical skills; and (d) professional development of mathematics teachers. The results reveal a sustained increase in the number of publications, which reflects a growing interest in the interdisciplinary approach in mathematics education. Finally, several challenges and opportunities are highlighted for future research, including the need to develop an interdisciplinary teacher training model, the creation of pedagogical strategies that promote greater interconnection between disciplines, and the need to carry out more studies focused on early childhood and primary education in this area.

This research exclusively aims to determine the type of digital media most often used in the teaching and learning process of history and the motivation to use digital media by teachers in teaching history based on the unified theory of acceptance and use of technology (UTAUT). This study demonstrates that online learning platforms have become a widely used tool among Indonesian history teachers, with the highest adoption of online learning platform use in Junior and Senior High School, reflecting the high access to this platform across types of schools. The key driving factor for technology in history learning is that the technology must be user-friendly and have sufficient support for its use by educators. This research, using the technology acceptance model (TAM), contributes to teachers about motivational and environmental factors on technology adoption in teaching. Accessibility and proper support are the primary drivers for using technology in education and were the most impactful factors for teachers incorporating technology into history learning. Along with this supportive infrastructure, an effort must also be made to provide a conducive environment, such as teachers working together in this direction, and sufficient infrastructure for teachers so that it becomes easier for them to access and utilize technology. These methods can all help teachers gain confidence in their use of technology.

Developing students' competency in constructing scientific explanations is a critical aspect of science learning. However, limited research has been conducted to explore the role of Generative Artificial Intelligence (Gen AI) in fostering this competency. Moreover, the factors influencing this competency development in the Gen AI-assisted learning environment remain underexamined. This study aimed to compare students' competency in constructing scientific explanations before and after participating in phenomenon-based learning with Microsoft Copilot and to investigate the factors influencing the development of this competency. A pretest-posttest quasi-experimental design was employed with 23 eighth-grade students from an all-girls school in Thailand. The research instruments included lesson plans for phenomenon-based learning with Microsoft Copilot, a competency test for constructing scientific explanations, and a mixed-format questionnaire. The results from the Wilcoxon Signed-Ranks Test revealed a statistically significant improvement in students' competency in constructing scientific explanations after the learning intervention (Z = 4.213, p < .001). Thematic analysis identified four key factors contributing to this development: (a) the role of Microsoft Copilot in enhancing deep understanding, (b) connecting theories to real-world phenomena through learning media, (c) collaborative learning activities, and (d) enjoyable learning experiences and student engagement. These findings suggest that the integration of Gen AI technology with phenomenon-based learning can effectively enhance students’ competency in constructing scientific explanations and provide valuable insights for the development of technology-enhanced science education.
Defining Key Areas of Home Economics Education Based on Stakeholders’ Perceived Needs: Results of a Delphi Study

Home economics education connects multidisciplinary knowledge and is crucial in addressing the challenges of changing society at the individual and family levels. For quality home economics education, pupils need to acquire knowledge and skills based on the fundamentals of home economics literacy, content, and goals defined in the curriculum for this subject. Our research aimed to establish the needs and perspectives of teachers, pupils, and parents regarding the importance and utility of home economics education. Areas of home economics to be included in the subject’s curriculum were identified, based on the perceived needs of pupils, parents, and teachers. The Delphi methodological approach was used. The first round of the Delphi study involved 30 teachers, 34 9th-grade pupils, and 34 parents of 9th-grade pupils, and its second round involved 16 teachers, 33 9th-grade pupils, and 29 parents of 9th-grade pupils. Survey results showed that by the end of elementary school, pupils in their home economics classes had acquired knowledge and skills in the economic and financial area, as well as in environmental and consumption, textiles, nutrition, health and well-being, social skills, and family and home. Although individual groups of respondents differed in the perceived importance of particular home economics areas, the respondents considered it important that pupils acquire home economics knowledge and skills in all identified areas. The Delphi research method proved to be an adequate method to identify the areas of home economics education that are important for a quality of life in modern society and need to be included in the home economics curriculum.
