Understanding graphs in the dynamics of market (DM) is a challenge to learners; its teaching demands a specific kind of teacher’s knowledge. This study aims to examine the topic-specific pedagogical content knowledge (TSPCK) of experienced economics teachers in teaching graphs in DM to enhance learners’ understanding of the topic. It reports using a qualitative approach underpinned by the TSPCK framework for teaching specific topics developed by Mavhunga. Data were collected through classroom observations and analyzed thematically using a case study of two economics teachers. The study revealed that adopting a step-by-step approach and the use of worked graphical examples promote an understanding of graphs in DM. It also established that active learning is preferable to the predominant chalk-and-talk (lecture) method of teaching graphs in DM. The study proposed a Dynamics of Market Graphical Framework (DMG-Framework) to enable teachers, particularly pre-service teachers in lesson delivery, to enhance learners’ understanding of graphs in DM. The result of this study will broaden the international view in the teaching of graphs in DM.

The ability to think creatively has a vital role in the development of preschool children. This research provides a comprehensive review of innovative approaches and strategies for developing creative thinking in preschool children based on current trends and methodologies used in educational settings. This research shows three significant areas: (a) creative thinking skills in preschool children, (b) factors influencing creative thinking skills in depth, and (c) innovative strategies and approaches to stimulate creative thinking abilities in preschool children. This research uses a literature study method assisted by the publish perish application to find reference sources related to creative thinking abilities in preschool children. Studies show that creative thinking abilities in preschool children enable them to find innovative solutions, help them adapt to challenges, foster self-confidence and courage, and enrich their experience and knowledge of the world around them. Meanwhile, preschool children's creative thinking abilities are influenced by collaboration from the external environment (parents, teachers, and society); providing support and examples for children to develop and stimulate their creative thinking skills is very important.

This qualitative study investigates the strategies employed by Vietnamese tertiary-level English as a Foreign Language (EFL) teachers to promote learner autonomy (LA) and enhance cultural awareness. This research provides a deeper understanding of EFL teaching practices in this setting, conducted in the context of Vietnam’s evolving educational landscape, where English proficiency and cultural competence are increasingly prioritized. The study utilized semi-structured interviews with nine EFL teachers from two different Vietnamese tertiary institutions, representing various career stages: novice, mid-career, and near-end career. Thematic analysis was employed to analyze the data, revealing a range of strategies encompassing collaborative learning, technology integration, personalized feedback, real-life scenarios and role-play, reflective learning practices, local culture incorporation, contextualized language instruction, critical thinking, and cultural analysis, student-centered environments, interdisciplinary approaches, language skills for intercultural communication, and authentic material use. Findings highlight the multifaceted nature of language teaching, emphasizing not just linguistic competence but also cultural understanding and LA. These strategies are crucial in a globalized world where intercultural communication is a key skill. The study suggests the need for continuous professional development and policy support for diverse and holistic teaching practices. It offers practical insights for EFL educators, particularly in similar socio-cultural contexts, on integrating various strategies to enhance language skills and cultural awareness.

Children who are currently in primary schools are part of the generation that will be most affected by the current environmental trend of our planet in the future. They are the generation that will need to live in accordance with sustainable development and biodiversity protection. One of the key aspects of biodiversity education is to increase environmental literacy using appropriate and effective methods. Our aim was to assess the ecological literacy of a group of primary school students in Slovakia and to identify areas where additional support and clarification may be needed for effective biodiversity education. Our findings reveal widespread misconceptions regarding terms such as 'ecology,' 'community,' 'population,' and 'ecosystem.' The research emphasizes the importance of innovative pedagogical approaches to address and correct these misconceptions effectively. By incorporating exploration-oriented teaching methods, hands-on activities, and a constructivist approach, educators can engage students in experiential learning and facilitate a deeper understanding of ecological principles. Interdisciplinary and participatory research approaches focused on biodiversity education offer promising avenues to enhance ecological literacy. Moreover, increasing interest in environmental education can contribute to nurturing environmentally conscious individuals equipped to tackle ecological challenges effectively. This study underscores the urgency of prioritizing ecological education at primary schools and provides insights into strategies for fostering ecological literacy among young learners.

The wide use of the Internet of Things (IoT) in all spheres of life has led to a surge of cyberbullying among learners worldwide. That is why it cannot be denied that underlying factors, manifestations, consequences, and preventive measures of cyberbullying improve the welfare and overall mental development of students. This systematic literature review examines the causes, effects, and preventive measures of cyberbullying based on empirical studies conducted on learners in various situations. The review will focus on existing material published between 2015 and April 2024. For the inclusion and exclusion of literature, the Scopus online database was employed, along with the guidelines of the PRISMA model. Of 1004 studies, 51 were closely reviewed to determine the responses to the objectives of this study. NVIVO-12 was used for both thematic and content analysis in this study. The results show that there are 29 causes, 12 forms, 31 effects, and 41 different preventives for cyberbullying. The results of this study will not only enhance the comprehension of various concerns for parents, guardians, policymakers, educators, and governments but also provide valuable insights to researchers for addressing this issue.

This study aimed to optimize critical thinking by empowering reflective and impulsive students' collaboration, communication, and information literacy skills through information literacy-oriented e-books in STEM-integrated problem-based learning (PBL). The research method used was a descriptive explorative approach. The study subjects consisted of five reflective students and five impulsive students. The measurement of cognitive style used the Matching Familiar Figure Test (MFFT) instrument. Collaboration skills were assessed through observation sheets, critical thinking and communication skills were assessed through student worksheets based on problem-solving tasks, and information literacy was assessed through a questionnaire. The study found that reflective students excelled in critical thinking and information literacy, while impulsive students demonstrated superior collaboration skills. As for communication skills, reflective and impulsive students have different advantages for each indicator of communication skills. This study can conclude that implementing information literacy-oriented e-books through STEM-integrated PBL can optimize reflective and impulsive students' critical thinking, collaboration, communication, and information literacy skills. The implication of this study is the importance of integrating 21st century skills holistically in learning practices, especially in the digital era, to prepare the younger generation to face the challenges of the 21st century.

This study examines the factors influencing English language achievement among non-English major undergraduate students in Thailand, with a specific focus on the differences between high-achieving and low-achieving learners. Conducted at Rajamangala University of Technology Lanna, this research adopts a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative data from questionnaires and qualitative insights from semi-structured interviews. Three primary influencing factors were identified: student-related factors (e.g., motivation and self-regulated learning), teacher-related factors (e.g., pedagogical practices and teacher-student interactions), and environmental factors (e.g., availability of learning resources). Student motivation and self-regulation emerged as the strongest predictors of success, while teacher-related factors unexpectedly showed a negative influence, suggesting a misalignment between teaching strategies and student needs. Environmental factors, though positively perceived, had a less direct impact on outcomes. Practical implications include enhancing intrinsic motivation, adopting tailored teaching strategies to meet diverse learner needs, and strengthening teacher-student relationships to support low-achieving students. Policymakers are encouraged to address resource disparities and develop targeted interventions to enhance English language proficiency among students.

With the introduction of the new curriculum, primary school Croatian fine arts teachers faced many challenges. The fundamental problem, the lack of school lessons, is highlighted by the challenges of implementing problem and project work and integrating technology into the teaching process. Therefore, it is important to organise activities where pupils use modern tools and media for high-quality educational purposes. The animation was chosen as a fine arts technique that can fulfil these requirements. Qualitative action research was conducted in city Split in the school year 2023/2024. The 5th and 8th grade pupils (125) and their fine arts teachers (3) participated in the research. A total of 75.23% of respondents were positive about the occasional introduction of technology into fine arts classes. After completing the fine arts project, 77.98% of pupils stated that they now have the knowledge and skills to create an animation themselves, while 77% of pupils consider their digital stories to be interesting and original. All three fine arts teachers cite a lack of continuity due to the small number of lessons as a shortcoming. The results point to poor material conditions: overheating of old projectors, low-quality tablets, poor internet connection and lack of power sockets. The research has shown that there are discrepancies between the prescribed theoretical requirements for learning outcomes and the possibilities for their practical realisation. As a result, teachers need to take a keen interest and receive additional training to ensure that the projects designed are in line with the requirements of the curriculum.

This study addresses global concerns surrounding elementary students' science performance following the COVID-19, as a result of international tests such as Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS) highlight the ongoing challenges that urge the exploration of innovative educational approaches to improve science learning. This research employed gamification-assisted instruction and explored its impact on enhancing the understanding of science concepts and attitudes toward science class among fourth graders. The study adopted a quasi-experimental design and included an experimental group (ExG) that was taught using a gamification strategy and a control group (CoG) that was taught using a traditional method with a sample of 38 female elementary students from a public school in Jordan. Data were gathered using valid and reliable tools: the developed scientific concepts test and the Attitude Towards Science class measures. The ANCOVA analysis revealed that gamification significantly improves the acquisition of scientific concepts (η2=.208) and boosts a positive attitude toward science classes among elementary students (η2=.626). These findings encourage decision-makers to incorporate gamification into science teaching practices and methods.

Integrated learning has emerged as an approach to developing critical thinking and creativity skills. This meta-analysis synthesizes the effects of integrated learning on critical thinking and creativity, drawing from experimental studies published over the past decade. This study addresses the research question: What are the impacts and factors influencing integrated learning on students' critical thinking skills and creativity compared to conventional learning over the past decade? In the database, 403 articles were obtained, which were then supplemented by seven articles from manual searches, so that there were a total of 410 articles. After a strict inclusion process, 8 articles were selected for analysis. The inter-rater reliability test using Cohen's Kappa coefficient produced a value of 0.78, which indicates a substantial level of agreement. The analysis includes data from 497 participants for critical thinking and 266 for creativity. Heterogeneity in critical thinking skill data was 96%, and in creative skills, it was 86%; then, a subgroup analysis of education level was carried out to find out where the high heterogeneity was. The results show a significant positive effect of integrated learning, with an SMD of 1.48 (p = .004) for critical thinking and 1.60 (p = .0001) for creativity. Funnel plots and Egger's regression tests indicate no risk of publication bias. In addition, this study also synthesized the causal factors of how integrated learning affects critical thinking skills and creativity. Further research is recommended to explore its long-term impact and implementation strategies in various educational settings.

STEM/STEAM education is an interdisciplinary pedagogical approach that cultivates skills in science (S), technology (T), engineering (E), arts (A), and mathematics (M) while also fostering 21st century skills like teamwork, problem-solving, critical thinking, and creativity in learners. Enhancing STEAM and 21st century skills for engineering students facilitates their swift adaptation to STEM/STEAM employment demands in the 4.0 industrial revolution and the ongoing digital transformation in Vietnam. This study aims to investigate the effect of STEAM project-based learning on the 21st century skills of 47 mechanical engineering technology students at a public university in Vietnam. The findings of a one-group pretest-posttest design and an analysis of engineering student groups’ STEAM project-based learning products revealed that there was a significant improvement in students' 21st century skills at a 95% confidence level. Among the three 21st century skills studied, engineering students’ collaboration skill showed a moderate effect size, while problem-solving and creative thinking skills demonstrated a large effect size after implementing STEAM project-based learning in the “Workplace Skills” course. Some significant limitations were identified, including (a) the lack of a comparison group, which may have influenced the difference between the pretest and posttest; and (b) the sustainability of 21st century skills developed through STEAM project-based learning in the “Workplace Skills” course was not investigated. Therefore, studying the effect of other factors on engineering students’ 21st century skills and exploring their sustainability were main recommendations for further research.

Critical thinking is highly valued as an integral skill for promoting students’ development, and problem-based learning (PBL) is widely used as an essential method to facilitate the development of critical thinking. However, since individual studies cannot determine the precise overall effect size of PBL on the development of critical thinking, it is difficult to systematically analyze the various influencing factors that hinder PBL from achieving sufficient effectiveness. Therefore, this study adopts a meta-analysis method to examine PBL in depth, aiming to clarify the crucial methods and elements of applying PBL to enhance critical thinking and address the shortcomings of existing studies. This study investigates two primary questions: first, the efficacy of PBL in enhancing critical thinking skills in comparison to traditional pedagogical approaches, and second, the influence of moderating variables on the effectiveness of PBL. To address these questions, a total of 25 studies were selected for meta-analysis. The findings revealed an overall effect size of 1.081 under the random-effects model, with a confidence interval of [0.874, 1.288] and p < .05, indicating that PBL significantly outperforms traditional methods. The analysis demonstrated that the effectiveness of PBL is not significantly influenced by learning stage, sample size, or measurement tools, thereby broadening the applicability of PBL and challenging preconceived limitations associated with its implementation. However, the results also indicated that PBL effectiveness is moderated by teaching methods and subject types, which offers critical insights for educators seeking to adapt their instructional strategies when employing PBL.

Research in mathematics education and interdisciplinarity is varied and extensive, covering multiple approaches that reflect a growing interest in this type of perspective. The objective of this study is to systematize the findings of research on interdisciplinary mathematics education published between 2019 and 2024. The review was carried out following the guidelines of the PRISMA statement, allowing us to identify 49 articles published in journals indexed in the Web of Science (WOS) and Scopus databases. Subsequently, a content analysis was carried out to identify methodological and theoretical aspects present in the studies reviewed, such as methodology employed, education level of participants, disciplines integrated with mathematics, and types of interdisciplinary tasks proposed. Additionally, four main research themes were identified: (a) understanding of interdisciplinarity; (b) pedagogical strategies for interdisciplinary development in mathematics education; (c) interdisciplinarity for the development of mathematical skills; and (d) professional development of mathematics teachers. The results reveal a sustained increase in the number of publications, which reflects a growing interest in the interdisciplinary approach in mathematics education. Finally, several challenges and opportunities are highlighted for future research, including the need to develop an interdisciplinary teacher training model, the creation of pedagogical strategies that promote greater interconnection between disciplines, and the need to carry out more studies focused on early childhood and primary education in this area.

This study investigates the effectiveness of scaffolded game development activities in enhancing computational thinking (CT) skills among young learners using a graphical programming environment. While prior research highlights the value of block-based programming in CT education, few studies explore how structured scaffolding supports learners in completing full game projects. Grounded in Vygotsky’s Zone of Proximal Development and Wing’s CT framework, this study involved 310 participants aged 10 to 15, including their teachers, in a tiered sequence of programming tasks using mBlock programming platform. Learners progressed from basic to more complex programming constructs, namely, loops, conditionals, variables, and debugging, which are included in the development of a complete Pac-Man or Snake game. Quantitative results demonstrated significant improvements in CT skills across all age groups. Qualitative data revealed increased learner engagement, reduced programming anxiety, and enhanced interest in computational problem-solving. The findings suggest that scaffolded game development is a promising strategy for early CT instruction, offering both cognitive and affective benefits. This work contributes to current literature by demonstrating how structured support and creative programming tasks can jointly promote CT proficiency and learner motivation in foundational computing education.

This mixed-methods study investigates the impact of the Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) method and fifth-semester student engagement on entrepreneurial competencies in the higher education of the makeup and beauty program at Padang State University. Using a convergent parallel design, data were collected from 117 fifth-semester students through questionnaires, interviews, observations, and portfolio assessments. The data were analyzed using Two-Way ANOVA and thematic analysis. The quantitative results revealed that the STEAM approach significantly outperformed conventional methods. Specifically, 83.33% of students achieved excellent leadership scores (M = 89.00, SD = 2.85), and 78.33% excelled in creativity (M = 87.50, SD = 2.98). High levels of engagement (M = 4.33) across behavioral, emotional, and cognitive dimensions correlated with enhanced competencies (p < .001). Qualitative findings indicated increased motivation, collaborative learning through platforms like TikTok Shop, and heightened mental engagement from diverse resources. The interaction between the STEAM and student engagement further amplified outcomes (F = 3.75, p = .025, R² = 0.454). This study highlights the transformative potential of the STEAM method in developing entrepreneurial competencies, underscoring its applicability in vocational education. Educators should integrate STEAM methodologies and digital platforms into their curricula, while future research should examine the long-term impacts and scalability of these approaches.

The concept of student workload has become central in European university discourse through the implementation of the Bologna Process. Through the European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS), it aims to standardize the measurement of student workload across European higher education. Scholars have highlighted limitations in this approach, particularly its inability to fully capture the complexities of student workload. Departing from such a response, we conducted a mixed-method case study, building our analysis on perspectives from Posthumanism and Actor-Network Theory, which offer a holistic and nuanced framework for understanding student workload. By conceptualising workload as a dynamic network of relational actants, this approach moves beyond previous conceptions. It also foregrounds the student as a complex individual whose agency is central to the construction of workload. Through this lens, student workload is not a fixed entity but a process of becoming, shaped by interactions both within and beyond the formal learning environment. Posthumanist perspectives thus allow for a richer understanding of the student as a whole person. This model provides valuable insights for institutional and educational discourse, as well as future research, highlighting the need for a more nuanced understanding of student workload.

Despite the increasing integration of artificial intelligence (AI) into education, a comprehensive understanding of how scholarly discourse has evolved over time remains limited. Most existing studies focus on technical implementation or short-term pedagogical outcomes, often lacking longitudinal scope or thematic synthesis. This study addresses that gap by offering a 25-year bibliometric analysis of AI-related educational research, mapping its conceptual development, publication trends, and emerging priorities from 2000 to 2025. Using data sourced from Lens.org and processed through Biblioshiny (R-Studio) and VOSviewer, 350 peer-reviewed articles were analyzed based on their thematic focus, keyword evolution, authorship patterns, and citation networks. The novelty of this study lies in its integration of bibliometric mapping with temporal thematic evolution, enabling a detailed understanding of how foundational concepts, such as lifelong learning, AI literacy, and ethics, have transitioned from peripheral concerns to central research themes. Findings show a sharp increase in publication volume after 2018, reflecting the impact of cloud-based AI platforms and the pandemic-induced pivot to remote education. While “artificial intelligence” and “education” remain dominant keywords, emerging themes such as “student well-being,” “digital competency,” and “personalized learning” suggest a shift toward more human-centered and ethically conscious AI applications. The study concludes by identifying persistent gaps related to pedagogical effectiveness, global equity, and critical digital literacy, offering a roadmap for future interdisciplinary research and inclusive educational policy.

The emergence of artificial intelligence (AI) has transformed higher education, creating both opportunities and challenges in cultivating students’ critical thinking skills. This study integrates quantitative bibliometric analysis and qualitative systematic literature review (SLR) to map global research trends and identify how critical thinking is conceptualized, constructed, and developed in the AI era. Scopus served as the primary data source, limited to publications from 2022 to 2024, retrieved on February 8, 2025. Bibliometric analysis using Biblioshiny R and VOSviewer followed five stages—design, data collection, analysis, visualization, and interpretation—while the SLR employed a deductive thematic approach consistent with PRISMA guidelines. A total of 322 documents were analyzed bibliometrically, and 34 were included in the qualitative synthesis. Results show that Education Sciences and Cogent Education are the most productive journals, whereas Education and Information Technologies have the highest citation impact. Several influential documents and authors have shaped global discussions on AI adoption in higher education and its relationship to critical thinking. Thematic mapping identified five major research clusters: pedagogical integration, ethical and evaluative practices, technical and application-oriented AI models, institutional accountability, and socio-technical systems thinking. Conceptually, critical thinking is understood as a reflective, evaluative, and metacognitive reasoning process grounded in intellectual autonomy and ethical judgment. Across the reviewed literature, strategies for fostering critical thinking converge into three integrated approaches: ethical curriculum integration, pedagogical and assessment redesign, and reflective human–AI collaboration. Collectively, these strategies ensure that AI strengthens rather than replaces human reasoning in higher education.

Learning to read constitutes one of the most important cognitive abilities students acquire during their education, and teachers’ knowledge of reading instruction is considered significant to teaching quality and students’ achievement. This paper aims to systematically review the existing research on teacher knowledge of reading instruction over the past six years, following the PRISMA statement’s guidelines, to identify the current research trends, areas of research, and research gaps. Three main research areas are identified in the 22 reviewed articles, namely (a) Teacher knowledge (TK) exploration, (b) TK assessment, and (c) TK development. More specifically, research on TK exploration includes sub-themes such as examining TK, investigating the relationship between TK and practice and student achievement, and influencing factors of TK. TK assessment includes research on the development and validation of more comprehensive measurement tools to assess teachers’ content knowledge and pedagogical content knowledge of reading instruction. TK development involves the effectiveness of interventions on TK of reading instruction in teachers’ professional development programs. Future studies are recommended to use a more diverse range of methods, including both quantitative and qualitative approaches to study teachers’ knowledge in their classroom practice, and to focus on teachers’ active role as knowledge constructors. Studies in L2 reading contexts are also recommended.
